Charlotte

Is this really happening? I can’t believe Harry didn’t give up on me. He never married the British bombshell I imagined he would, or have the two point five kids that were supposed to be ours.

This is too much. I can’t think straight, especially with him holding my hand and standing close enough to hear his heart beating.

Easing my hand away, I step back. “Oh Harry, so much has happened in ten years. We can’t just pretend everything is the same.”

“I realize it’s a lot to take in and you’re married. But if—“

“I’m hungry, mommy. Can we go eat?”

Noah taps my leg as I force my eyes from Harry’s perfect lips, wondering what he was about to say. Feeling a tiny hand on my leg, I look at my boy. “Absolutely.”

Noticing his heavy eyes, I hold his hand as we walk alongside Mars, Harry and Dawson trailing behind.

We stop at the bottom step. “Noah, say goodbye to Harry and Dawson and we’ll get you some lunch.”

“Bye Harry, goodbye Dawson.”

“Bye, little man. Eat all of your lunch so you grow up big and strong, okay?” Harry tells him.

Climbing the stairs with Marley and yawning, he nods, “Okay.”

“Bye, Noah.” Dawson calls out as Mars turns around to wave to them.

“Well, I better get him lunch so he can take a nap. The sun wears him out.”

“Of course. Maybe we’ll see you later?” Harry asks.

Stopping on the second step, I flip my head around grinning. “Maybe.”

His face reddens when I gaze over my shoulder, giving him a sideways glance. “Bye guys.”

“Goodbye Charlotte.” They say in unison as I walk into the house.

Mars and Noah walk out of the downstairs bathroom and I follow them into the kitchen while Chloe walks ahead sniffing for crumbs on the floor. “What would you like to eat bud?”

“Chicken nuggets and apple sauce.”

“Alrighty, it’s coming up. Why don’t you grab your tablet and sit at the table?”

“I’ll get his juice.” Marley strolls to the fridge while I close the freezer. She mumbles, “You two sure seemed cozy on the beach. When Noah takes a nap, I want all the details.”

I snicker, happily going about my business, replaying in slow motion Harry’s words and the feel of his hands. It didn’t seem real.

After waiting years for him, mom and Marley made me realize it was time to move on—I was miserable. It was the hardest thing I ever did, but my sanity was at stake. I had to give up on my soulmate.

Plucking the nuggets out of the microwave, I carry them to my son. I grab the pack of applesauce off the island and open it. “Here you go sweetie.”

He yawns as he picks up the chicken. “I’m tired.”

“I know, buddy. After you eat, you can take a nap and then we’ll have some more fun. Sound good?” Barely nodding his head, he sucks on the applesauce.

Ruffling his hair, I join Mars in the kitchen. “I hope you’re making enough for me.” I nudge her arm.

“Don’t I always? You pay me well, it’s the least I can do.
